My Casino

From the editorials today -

People in our area have mentioned on many occasions the positive economic impact of a casino. We have city-owned property along the St. Joseph River that would be a wonderful location for that venture. Not only would it bring masses of gaming people from all over the country, but the spinoff businesses would also be incredible. I picture a beautiful river walk with restaurants and shops; river taxis and sight-seeing tours on our wasted river; and beautiful hotels.

We took the land from the Indians in the first place. Let’s give them some back. They are smart business people, and they can also cut through red tape. They will build a casino, and we can reap the benefits.

It’s happening all over Michigan. It would be nice to see that money coming here – or I suppose we could just continue raising our taxes.

Is this guy suggesting that we give the land to an indian tribe so they can start a casino and that in return would generate taxes for FW? Those casinos are tax exempt, so there would be nothing to gain. Check out some casino facts HERE

Also, please do no compare us to Michigan and their indian casinos. Recently their governor took a major conference, which could have generated a lot of money for a community to a indian reservation, thus generating nothing for the local economy.

Ask Harrison County about their Casino on the Ohio. They have so much money, they don't know what to do with it.

Yes, you are right. That conference should have been held in a "community" where "people" could benefit, rather than on a reservation where native americans live. What was the governor thinking.

Starting a "white power" blog anytime soon?

If you can't see the difference of having the opportunity of big dollars being pumped into an already depressed economy, such as Michigan, and escorting all those dollars to a place where the state does not benefit one cent - then I feel sorry for you.

Didn't the native american community benefit from the conference?

This person got one thing right, the Native People of our country are smart (although I hate to give this person ANY credit)!!!!!!

Which local Indian tribe does this idiot think would take this on or benefit? The Miamis??? Though socially recognized by themelves and a handful of local people who care, the tribe is not federally recognized around here. As far as I understand, all Miami have to be recognized via Oklahoma.

"They will build a casino, and we can reap the benefits." As always, this white bastard wants to reap the benefits of the work done by our country's Native People. It's ignorant editorials like this that make me SICK for our state and our country! SELFISH, CHEAP, GREEDY and ARROGANT %^$&#*@!

If Natives in this area would be allowed to run such a business, then they should reap ALL the rewards and WOULD as Change Fort Wayne states! I can't imagine the cheap people in this city to allow such a thing though! Gimme! Gimmme!

Raising taxes! Huh!!!! Do the people of Fort Wayne even really how lucky they are to pay some of the lowest proprety taxes anywhere?
