Other members of the 15-member committee said they believe the party should remain loyal to Kelty, but did not want to be identified.
That’s because what happens in executive committee meetings is supposed to remain confidential, Shine said.
“Anyone who said anything (about what happened in the meeting) should be man or woman enough to resign,” Shine said. “It’s a complete betrayal, as serious as the (Kelty) issues they’re speaking about. Shame on them.”
“I said what I said,” McGauley responded. “I’m free to state my own opinion. I’m not violating anyone’s confidence but my own.”

Good for John McGauley.
Steve Shine has lost control of the Party.
Time for him to go.
Finally - someone who isn't afraid to speak the truth. Weather anyone admits it or not, McGauley's statements are right on the mark. Yes, Republicans have to stick up for thier party members, but it's more important to stick-up and speak up for the truth. I admire McGauley's boldness and courage.
I just gained a lot of respect for McGauley
Give em hell McGauley!
In 2002, the Republican Party in Marion County was divided after the primary for the Sheriff's race between Joe McAtee and Tom Schneider. Schneider won the primary, and ran a negative campaign against his opponent, Democrat Frank Anderson. Anderson ran a clean campaign and won the general election.
I bring this up because it reminds me of what is happening in Fort Wayne. The Republican Party is divided, and Kelty may turn up the heat and go negative agasint Henry.
The Allen County GOP shot itself in the foot when elected officials endorsed Peters. McGauley appeared in the mailer with the other officials, so it certainly wouldn't be out of line to question his motives. His concern for the party is admirable, but I can't help but ask, "Where was your concern for the party when you were asked, or volunteered, to appear in the mailer?"
Maybe his appearance in the mailer was the result of pressure from the power players. Maybe now he has had enough and he is standing up for what he believes is right, in an effort to correct a mistake.
Or, maybe he's just not a fan of Kelty. Who knows.
I really don't feel like Shine is 100% behind Matt Kelty
Kaiser,
Did it ever occur to you that maybe the elected officials who endorsed Peters did so because they truly believed in him? I can't imagine that there was any "pressure" put on any one of them to publicly endorse him. You people who blame "the establishment" give them too much credit. They don't have, nor do they want so much power as to "fix" a campaign. They all knew Peters, they all knew Kelty. They're vote was with Peters because he was the best candidate and a man of integrety.

Hmmm. The Party of Lincoln. Honest Abe. And the local GOP is talking about supporting an indicted perjurer( lawyer-speak for Liar)
What happens in GOP HQ stays in GOP HQ? giggle!!
viva Fort Vegas..
And what could the GOP and Kelty possibly imagine to "go negative" on Henry? When your own candidate is just another Indicted co-conspirator in a long long dirty laundry list of Convicted GOP'er's, anything that Henry may have ever done, sort of pales by comparison.
Like the cubs- better luck next year, losers!
Good for McGauley! If Shine still thinks the party is behind Kelty, he's going to be mighty surprised come November.
Did anyone hear the Pat White show yesterday? One guy actually stated he was voting for Kelty because he's the underdog! What an incredible idiot. I hope everyone doesn't vote WITHOUT KNOWLEDGE OF THE ISSUES. Duh, I'll vote for Kelty cuz I feel sorry for him. Who cares if he runs this city into the ground. Honestly, every person who called in to 'defend' their 'chosen one' sounded crazy. Not one of them could exact a sound reason for voting for Kelty.
You cannot count Kelty out. He only needs one more vote than Tom Henry to become mayor of Fort Wayne. You'd be astonished at the number of otherwise sensible people who believe Kelty is simply the victim of political operatives. Most people have only a superficial understanding of the situation and have bought into the idea that Kelty is a political outsider and reformer in a age when people desperately want tax reform, government reform, etc.
As much as it terrifies me to say it, Kelty still has a good chance of becoming mayor.
Anon 5:31,
Nobody accused anybody of trying to "fix" an election. However, the infamous mailer was an attempt to influence the outcome...and it backfired BIG TIME.
Don't get me wrong, I admire McGauley for standing up for what he believes in.
Shine thinks the guy who told told the truth in a meeting should resign, but the guy who lies to the press and to the GRAND JURY is A-OK!

I prefer a different, although just as likely, scenario. All of those elected officials happened to spontaneously appear in the courthouse green at the same time alongside Nelson at the exact same time a photographer happened to be walking along. How lucky!

Are you an idiot?
The mailer had zero impact one way or the other. It did not backfire but it had no impact. The message it tried to convey fell short. The message is anybody who knows Kelty does not support Kelty.
I changed my vote after I saw the likes of Mark Souder and David Long on the mailer.
Study committees and other non-issues aren't going to win it for Henry if he continues with the non-issue issues.
I agree with the guy who said Kelty could very well win.
Kelty seems like a decent man but he is not mayor material.
Has anyone seen any of Kelty's videos on his website? I watched a couple, and "Confidence" was not one of the words that popped in my head. I couldn't tell if he were nervous, or if he had some kind of mental disorder. He looked at the floor, and studdered a lot. His thoughts were also verry disorganized as he rambled on and on.
In a lot of ways, it looked like Kelty was some kind of militia leader...hidnig out in his basement, sending out "the word" to his followers.
Scary stuff.
Mental disorder? Militia leader? My goodness some of you are paranoid.
There were many reasons that the elected officials endorsed Peters-not a typical Primary practice. It was more than their believe in Peters that led to this—it was also a deeply felt unease with Kelty’s abilities. People have mistakenly started acting as if this is a qualified candidate who is just in some trouble. Wrong. He may be a nice guy but his limitations are clearly understood by those who have worked with him or know him through the parry. Consider simple things: that Kelty got in trouble earlier in the campaign for sending illegal absentee ballot applications to voters (He had pre-selected the party preference) a CLEAR violation of campaign law, He was also admonished no fewer than four times for failing to put the required legal disclaimer on his campaign lit, etc. A CLEAR violation of election statutes (and something he is STILL, yes STILL doing over and over) and more (his struggle to keep his head above water financially with his business and other personal issues that call his management and decision making abilities into serious question) have made people legitimately question his abilities. Don't forget those unsettling issues and other troubling questions that made the elected officials then and now question Kelty's ABILITY to be MAYOR. It ISN”T just this current legal battle—it is a deep set and long standing worry that Kelty is simply not qualified for the job. Thank goodness for McGauley who has the courage to speak the truth when others are saying it behind closed doors and then crossing their fingers hoping that Kelty doesn't become mayor. Their constituents deserve more--McGauley spoke the truth because he knows it is the best thing for this community. Shame on the others who think simply NOT being publicly supportive is sending the same truthful message. It is shameful, cowardly and detrimental to the community.
FWT
Paranoid...that's the word that I would use to describe Matt in the videos.
