http://www.bikeamarillo.org/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/img_5897.jpg wal mart sells quality mountain bikes for under $150. I should know- I've bought 2 in the last 10 years- 5 yrs each, 1000's of miles on each for 7500 dollars a pop, seems to me the cops could maybe walk? or ride a mountain bike too? since they dont walk enough as it s, and are fat, and stupid, the only arrests they likely will effect is CARDIAC ARREST. and are these overpriced electric scooters powered by SEARS "DIEHARDS WITH A VENGEANCE"? ASSHOLE COPS. STUPID CHIEF. LAZY FAT BASTARDS. obviously- i'm not fond of our local law enforcement officials. MAYBE WE COULD PUT CHERRYMASTERS IN THEIR DASHBOARDS, SO THEY CAN PLAY SLOTMACHINES WHILE THEY TOOL AROUND TOWN?. be sure to wear your helmet, officer.. sheesh. another boondoggle.
Confound you, you apparently beat me to it. Though I'm not so worried about the HS connection at all.
I'm more concerned with the sentiment that the top speed of 23 MPH is somehow seen as better than a bike (really, you can get that fast if you're reasonably in shape) but really... you don't need to go that fast to catch someone on foot... and any faster you'd need a car, anyway.
Though Roach, I've worked on too many Walbikes (damn Pacific bikes...) to ever recommend one, especially not for hard daily use. The Trek cop edition goes for about $1,100 and will take the abuse though.
HERES SOME "FOOD FOR THOUGHT"( DONUTS ANYONE?) http://www.coolerfun.com/images/larry_on_cooler_bu44.jpg THIS'LL "GIT-R-DONE" for a whole lot less! GIGGLE!! for 24,000(3 scooters)- we could buy 24 overpriced trek mountain police bikes; or roughly 240 WAL-MART "MAGNA" BRAND 26 inch mountain bikes- one for over half of the entire FWPD! video i-phone, blackberry, and kevlar helmet extra, btw
http://crave.cnet.com/i/bto/CopSegway_270x298.jpg note: this model has left handlebar available to hang your donuts on, and a center console for your starbucks, or energy drink. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2394/2081430868_a5a85d5026.jpg SWAT TEAM MODEL-powered turret optional http://www.usatechguide.org/item_images/extreme_4x4_a.jpg COMMAND STAFF SCOOTER- note extra heavy duty weight capacity for all those fat bastards- who havent gotten any exercise for the past 20 years- walking, biking, etc.- BUT THEY GET TO KEEP THEM WHEN THEY RETIRE- TAKE HOME SCOOTERS!

LET THEM RIDE INTO THE NIGHT
THEY JUMP THROUGH THE TENTS AT TRF
THEY WALK AROUND THE SQUARE DOWNTOWN
THEY EAT A LOT OF DINNERS
BUT THEY DON'T EXERCISE, THEY STILL WALK
HELL I WOULD WALK TOO
THEY COULD STAY AT THE BEAUTIFUL ANTHONY WAYNE HOTEL
-ROACH
What a great idea to purchase three T3 Motion electric scooters.
Way to go Chief Rusty York.
outstanding, Bobett

You're being facetious when you compare a Chinese pig-iron 30+ lb. POS Magna to an aluminum-framed Trek, right? Please tell me you're kidding.
You've clearly never had to work on those very often, or at all... you very much get what you pay for.
And yes, there's a reason for this (posted by me from a certain shop here in town oh so long ago).
