My Why

Apparently a new Ice Rink is in the works: Read HERE

I've got to ask why are we not encouraging this kind of development downtown?

Moreover, this looks like a great time for the city council to revise its tax abatement approval criteria. The council should only consider a tax abatement only if the development occurs inside Fort Wayne's CReED areas.

If this development is done correctly, this could attract many tournaments or competitions that have been known to create a large draw of tourists.

In the Current vicinity of the proposed development area, there are no hotels. The closest hotels are the ones on 69, and the great hotels on Goshen and Coliseum.

Or how about North River?

This is a HUGE opportunity that we are about miss.

It's a GIGANTIC opportunity that is about to be missed. Who knows what dumb yhinking is causing the developer to risk private capital building where they plan tom but a good private-punlic partnership should change their mind.

Following the Harrison Square model, we should:

1. Use tax dollars to buy land in the space government thinks would be best, pay for environmental clean-up, demolition and site prep, then give the land to the developer.

2. Use public money to pay for 60% of the project cost.

3. Have the taxpayers pay all utility costs for the private business.

4. Give them a tax abatement

5. Have the taxpayers guarantee profits for the next 10 or 15 years,

6. Shout "Catalyst! Catalyst! Catalyst!" over and over.

This opportunity is too BIG, BIG, BIG to be missed!

LOL, CFW I thought you were smarter.

This would be a horrible idea for downtown. Especially after the Harrison Squares Development Boondoggle!!!

So just please stop posting stuff like this. You make no sense and have no credibles after Harrison Squares!

Apparently, I have "no credibles" after "Harrison Squares"

I could be mistaken, but Harrison Square is still in the process of being built.

Both previous commentors are over dramatizing my statements - All I have suggested is limiting tax abatements to those developments inside of our designated CReED zones. A developer dropping $10M, might be swayed on location if offered an abatement.

Chances are, they will apply for a tax abatement at their current location - which should should be turned down.

An early plan that I heard was 4 buildings on North River... One as a natatorium, one an ice rink, one with courts. 2 of those have fallen through and there was no plan for the fourth. That's my best guess re: the North River & athletics right now.

Well, maybe we can add a new "name" to the list for the "Summit City":

CITY OF MISSED CHANCES

Does that work for anyone?
Show of hands?
