Good for you Fort Wayne. How dare anyone ride a bicycle on YOUR streets! Fort Waynians know that the high gas prices are just a temporary thing, and everything will be back to normal in just a few short weeks.
I mean who would ever ride a bus in this city? You actually have to sit next to people and maybe walk a few blocks to your final destination. Oh the horror!!! Who needs public transportation, it's only for those fancy people in New York City.
And one of the cities biggest employers happens to make gas guzzling pick up trucks...but like I said, this is just a temporary thing. No need to worry.

I am a big supporter of Share the Road.
People in fort wayne do not realize... IT IS ILLEGAL TO RIDE YOUR BIKES ON THE SIDEWALKS. (unless it is a multipurpose trail, aka Greenway)
Unless this person has seen masses of bikes and mopeds on the interstate, they need to wake up and smell the roses
Fetchy you are 100% right.
Most motorists think that bikers can ride on the sidewalks.
I wish Fort Wayne would devote more money to bike lanes on actual streets...it would be a lot safer for bikers.
That reminds me, anyone else see the VERY short section of a bike lane that was around the Zoo? Hey its a start...right!?
I'm looking forward to the new trails and greenway, this is where the good start/money is, should get quite a few more people out and riding. As for the space b/t: Watch out! for now anyway, until drivers get used to sharing.
There are opportunities to create bike lanes on streets connecting the rivergreenway to downtown, but the city must keep them one way. It seems to me that if people in cars continue to disdain bikers as much as they seem to, there should be a lot more bike lanes in this town.
I loooved what I saw by the zoo! Keep it up and spread that around!
You guys are idiots
4:01^ haha, excellent comment. Thoughtful yet to the point. Well done.
Fetchy:
In MY neighborhood no one WALKS on the sidewalks to begin with (a cultural thang), so the BEST place TO ride a bike would be (all together now)...THE SIDEWALKS!
When they get these mooks BACK ON the pavement, THEN we can ride bikes in the street.
Until then, I like our "status quo".
Now, if the CITY could do something about ALL THE SPEEDERS on the streets around here!
;)

I just moved here from the bike-friendly northwest and I'm terrified to ride my bike. The roads and the drivers are not compatible with bikes. I've always been a big on bikes following the rules i.e. riding on the road, following traffic laws, actually using hand signals, etc. But here, IF I ride my bike, it'll be on the sidewalk. Anyways, it's not like there are actually people around using the sidewalk.
Random section of bike lane on Hillegas by Animal Care and Control. Nice, but poorly thought out?
I think that Coliseum needs a bike lane. Riding to IPFW would be easier.
