My $55M Road

From Today's NS HERE

The $55,000,000 road to River Haven. SWEEEEEEEEET.

Best Quote of the article:

"Without the Maplecrest project, Young said, Wal-Mart might not build its long-proposed store at Adams Center Road and Indiana 930. The project also makes east-side industrial locations more attractive, he said, including the former Nishikawa Standard plant at 2808 Adams Center Road. Economic activity in the area is vital, because plans call for generating about $125,000 for the project per year by creating a Tax Incremental Financing (TIF) district, which would direct new property taxes to repayment of construction bonds."

So, let me get this straight - we are willing to start a TIF district in order to secure a new Wal-Mart. But creating a TIF for Harrison Square - a catalyst project for downtown - is completely taboo.

I think its time for FW to get real - this road has been tabled for 30 years now? Time has passed and so has a reasonable price for this project. The benefits seem to be all on the side of New Haven, and the last time I checked - New Haven and the rest of Allen County want a clear definition between FW and them - so let's back out. If they want it, let them deal with it.

I'd rather see a few million spent on a nice straight road with safe intersections connecting Aboite Center,Covington and SR14. But that's just me, I'm thinking too much about my possible obit: "Tried the intersection of Aboite and Dicke one too many times. Lost."

Welcome back Change !

The Fort's been a bleak and dismal place without you.

Regarding the Maplecrest extension, at this stage in the game, it sounds like another "bridge to nowhere" earmark project.
