My Tower

Proposed cell phone tower in West central - HERE

Centennial wireless wants to put up a huge cell phone tower in the same area as the historic GE sign along Broadway so that "people can get better coverage"

We here at Change Fort wayne did some digging and found out two other locations (see below) that Centennial wants to put cell phone towers so that Jessica can tell her friend Melissa how cute Tommy is in Mrs. Waterson's 4th period social studies class.

Wonder what all those CEOs would think if "we" proposed they place some of those towers "where the sun never shines" so "they" could hear "us" beter.

It has the novelty of never having been tried...yet.

WIll these new "towers" support text messaging? There are not enough text messaging "towers" in the city. We need more.

Centennial wants to place the tower at 1427 Broadway to provide coverage to a small area where motorists cannot talk on their phones.

You know, the dropped call thing. People just can't wait to get home to discuss anything.

What I find interesting is the reason for the tower is to boost service for cell phone users who are driving.

The representative from Centennial told us at the West Central Meeting that it wasn't residences that are affected - it is motorists who want to chat on the way to work, going home from work, or any other time they think they can't go for 5 minutes without being on a cell phone.

What is hypocritical about the tower is that we tell people all the time not to drive and talk on the cell phones and now Centennial wants to erect an ugly tower in a residential area so those poor drivers can carry on conversations while driving.

Let the build the damn tower downtown!!!! We are trying to revitalize that area for business. People doing business need to talk on there mobiles. There is no problem with mobile coverage up north on the bypass. And you know what, business is doing very good up there. Use some common sense people!

Why not put the tower near harriosn if people are so angry. Its just a metal structure.

We asked him that question. According to the rep from Centennial, GenCom couldn't work out any other location.

Revitalizing the area has nothing to do with building a tower. All the tower will do is help drivers avoid dropped calls while they are driving and talking on their cell phones.

Get a grip - can't people go 5 minutes without chatting on the phone? Again, we tell motorists not to drive and talk on the phone because of the danger and then Centennial comes along and says it needs a tower to help deprived motorists chat while they drive.

I also doubt whether tower and cell phone usage has anything to do with business on the north side of town. If you have some stats linking business with cell phone usage, please share them.

The towers on West State were no doubt in an area where build-up had not yet occurred. That is a residential area, but I wonder how populated it was 50 years ago?

Also, the tower location is in a residential area adjacent to and overlapping with an historic district.

I don't think the area where the TV tower is located is an historic district. Believe it or not, some of us want to see our historic districts protected from just this type of structure.

lets stick the tower near home plate, or harrison square bal-park, and put a web cam on it as well. then we can all watch the wizards games from wherever we have to go to find meaningful work, at a living wage with benefits. we can even watch thme play from china, or india- since thats where all our jobs went anyway. just a click away from home.
its called mis-direction- get the peasants riled up over something stupid, and they'll forget they're poor, hungry, sick, etc. or whatever else the local govt has up their sleeves.

Just thought I would follow up now that the hearing is over. For those who weren't following - GenCom withdrew its application.

The staff report had also recommended denying the application. Some times the little people do win.

While this isn't over, it does look like GenCom will look for another site - perhaps not so visible.
