Dear News-Sentinel,
Please stop printing terrible editorials, such as this:
If we're going to ban smoking in private places where people can choose or not choose to patronize, then the city needs to also ban all alcohol sales as well.
This is just as dangerous as cigarettes if not more so. People get drunk and then get behind the wheel. Next let's start pulling drivers off for reckless, aggressive driving and running all of these stop lights. The streets are a public place - a bar isn't.
By the way, when I am walking in the park or riding my bicycle, I am being exposed to all of the gas fumes and omissions from the gas-sucking SUVs, semis, pickup trucks and vans on the road. Again, public is the key word here.
By the way, I am a non-smoker.
Sincerely,
CFW

It's not my newspaper!!!!!!!!
Two small corrections:
* It's not an editorial, it's a letter to the editor.
* It's called The News-Sentinel.
Thanks.
Thanks, Jon
I'm sure they'll get right on that!
I'll put the 's' on News, but I won't fix the other. I still am completely opposed to anything of that nature being printed.
You oppose anyone, anywhere printing ideas and opinions you don't agree with?
You might feel better living someplace like China.
Also: there is an objective, not subjective, difference between an editorial and a letter to the editor. One is written by staff, the other not.
Trying to be cute or whatever and labeling a letter an editorial just makes you look ignorant.

Wow..why all the personal attacks on the blog author for not specifying letter to the editor--he should have, sure, but such tirades seem a bit of an over reaction.
When I read these letters in the paper, it only makes me cringe a little on behalf of the person who wrote the letter--at some point he or she must realize how poorly written and how badly thought out it was.
But still.....I must point out to CFW: Your comparisons fall short-- the ban does not prevent anyone from smoking-it just prevents people from smoking in a public place at someone else's health risk. Outside is fine, home is fine.
And you will be happy to know there ARE laws against drinking and driving already in place. Redeemer, one CAN drink and NOT drive. But, it is a bit more difficult to smoke and not create second-hand smoke to the detriment of others. The comparison is off base.
The rest of your argument is just too silly to respond to.
