My View: No Kool Aid Here

From Today's News Sentinel

Vote for truth, not party

Sharon Kuhn wrote a very nice “campaign” letter for the Republican candidate for mayor in The News-Sentinel last week, and I am sure she believes everything she stated in that letter. However, the people of this fine city have got to consider a couple of things about Mr. Kelty.

To begin with, Matt Kelty never played football for Notre Dame. He may well have walked onto the field and shook hands with Gerry Foust. He did not, however, play ball there.

We should question Mr. Kelty's sincerity in “coming clean” about where he got the money to fund his campaign. What he isn't telling us is someone was about to blow the whistle and let Fort Wayne residents know about the money “cover-up,” so he decided to “fess up” before his deception was exposed. Many people I have spoken to who chose to support Mr. Kelty in the primary would not have voted for him had they known who his financial backer was.

Is this what we can expect if we make the mistake of trusting him with the future of our city? “Don't tell the people, they don't need to know”?

One of the things I fail to understand about Ms. Kuhn's letter is her questioning our prosecutor Karen Richards' motives. Ms. Richards was elected to serve all of Fort Wayne, not as a servant of the Republican Party. It is her job to investigate any impropriety brought to her attention. If we are to buy into Ms. Kuhn's theory, then we must believe that Matt Kelty will owe the “Right to Life” people a big favor, or only honor the wishes and desires of his Republican constituents.

He says he is going to expose the truth. Does he even know the meaning of the truth? Can we really believe anything this candidate is telling us?

Do you wonder, as I do, if Mr. Kelty even graduated from such a fine school as Notre Dame? If so, he is not a credit to the university. Three of my children graduated from that fine school, and I am ashamed of Matt Kelty's name even being mentioned in the same breath as Notre Dame. How can we really believe anything he says?

Do yourself and your family a favor, Matt, before anything else comes out about you. Resign from the election and preserve at least some dignity in the eyes of your children. You say you are concerned that they are hearing such “bad” things about you. You brought it on yourself.

My grandmother once said, “What a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive.”

Why does it matter if we exercise our right to vote? Because if we stay home, Matt Kelty just might win the election. Go to the polls and let your vote reflect your displeasure at this misrepresentation of the facts. Republicans, you can cast your vote for a Democrat. It will be painless, and it will be a vote for the truth.

Good Post and Great Letter to Editor. There was another good one this morning from Bernd Fisher. (I think he is redeeming the profession of College Professor from the guy cited yesterday)
The BEST line in the letter was

"It seems to me that there is a rather large gap between being above suspicion and being released on your own recognizance"

Another embellishment of Mr. Kelty's is his claim to be a "life-long" resident of Fort Wayne.

This is simply NOT true.

Matt Kelty went to school in Rome City, Indiana, and then went on to four years of high school at East Noble High School in Kendallville, Indiana.

This would be a mute and non-existant point if it hadn't been for Mr. Kelty touting and promoting this claim.

This borders on craziness at some point. Walk on at Notre Dame, Saving $158,000 because of a 'frugal lifestyle', lifelong resident of Fort Wayne.... Is this guy pathological or what? Does he even know the difference between truth and falshoods?
Or perhaps he was already been given absolution to cover all these.....

the mainstream news in Fort Wayne needs to pick up on this. The lies may be small, but he lies about everything! He might have some sort of a disorder.

The mainstream media knows what Kelty is like. They've all talked to him and have heard all the rumors. I think they believe it's all true but are afraid to print it. I wish they would do better investigative work. They all knew about the funky finances during the primary race but chose to keep a lid on it. Don't know why - maybe they hated Peters.

Kelty does not stand a chance. Vote Henry.

I often feel empathy for Kelty-- I feel sorry for him. It seems that much of his deception(s) was intended to obscure unflattering aspects of his campaign.

Similarly, when he talks about the city and his future as major it sound's like he has a neurological compulsion, more than he really seeing himself leading the city somewhere, or even establish some sort of (religous) city on a hill.
