My Implosion Theory

What has been the fate of "Multi-use" Stadiums recently?

Another thought. How is the "multi-use" facility going to house football, hockey and figure skating? Is this going to be a new arena downtown....a new stadium and arena? Sounds like lots of public dollars are going to be used if this venture comes to fruition.

I'm sure the person from the Peters' campaign will have a great comment forthcoming.

Multi use facilities do not have a very good track record. They are never good to watch all events and end up compromising the experience for all events. Baseball in a football stadium - Huge gaps and under utilization because not all seats are good. Football in a baseball stadium, seats are not ideal for watching the game, players get hurt and the field looks bad. If they want multi-use the city should buy more land and build a new hockey rink, natatorium, and whatever else they want next to the stadium. Maybe they could use some of the same facilities but this should be thought of as another phase.

Smaniac, I think that is the opportunity for the North River/Omnisource property.

Not according to Kelty and Peters. According to them the stadium should be multiuse. I think we should put the swimming pool in the middle of the outfield. That would make things interesting.

Excellent idea, Smaniac. That goes along well with making the facility a golf course on days when there aren't ballgames. Plus if they make the pitchers mound just right, it could be an interesting sand trap.

Also, I am concerned that not enough attention has been paid to making this a 24 hour per day facility. Our taxpayer dollars will be wasted if people can't use this 24/7/365. And what about people getting off 2nd and 3rd shifts? If it's not open all the time then the project discriminates against them - just one more reason to oppose it.

I do have some ideas for late night operation and for a small consultant fee would be happy to share these ideas with any of the mayoral candidates who ask.
