Kelty's a religious man. Shouldn't he take this as a sign from God that he isn't meant to be Mayor? His job was to keep Peters out of teh general election.
While Kelty was out abusing the public's trust and being an arrogant arss to his opponent, Tom Henry has acted with grace and dignity through the election.
AWB has a thread on his site about the following comment made by Tom Henry:
“Yesterday (Tuesday) was a very sad day for our community,” Henry said. “We were exposed to something our city has never experienced before.”
AWB responded with:
"Pardon me Tom, but a trip to the doctor might be in order because you appear to have a case of forgetheimers. Or maybe you’re intentionally trying to ignore the fact then democrat Fort Wayne Mayor Win Moses was convicted of campaign finance fraud in 1985 for secretly cramming thousands of dollars into the 1984 primary campaign of sheriff candidate Boris Jeremenko.
Tom needs stumping lessons."
Excuse me, but this is such nonsense. AWB didn't even consider the fact that Tom was referring, in part, to the hoopla surrounding the indictment and the fact that a political candidate was hauled away in handcuffs.
But interestingly enough, on August 14th, AWB said:
"When Win Moses was charged, he was allowed to gracefully turn himself in. Was Matt given the same courtesy.. NO. This is a liberal media circus."
So, as AWB pointed out, this is not the same was when Moses was indicted.
I loathe hypocrites, and I despise partisan zealots even more. AWB needs to get his colon cleansed because he is so full of...well, you know.
FWIW, the fact that GOP officials may have testified is not evidence of a divided party. Rather, it's evidence that those individuals complied with a subpoena ordering them to testify before a grand jury.
Brian Howey knows what he is talking about, he's seen it all. If Kelty would have been truthful about EVERYTHING and above-board about EVERYTHING, then the primary would have turned out differently. Tom Henry would have had competition in the general election.
AWB has the latest Zogby poll on his site. In fact, he's so proud that it is on his site, that he posted a link to it in a non-related topic on Sylvester's blog.
The poll, taken before the indictments, showed Kelty and Henry pretty much in a tie. What's interesting, though, is that Henry is ahead by a percentage point, but only 184 respondents identified themselves as Democrats and 251 said they were Republicans. Of the 165 independents, 42.3% were said they would vote for Henry, as compared with 24.9% that would vote for Kelty.
I had originally predicted that if Kelty won the primary, he would lose the general election. I believed that he wouldn't be able to win over independent voters, who typically prefer candidates with moderate views. It looks like these numbers may very well confirm that prediction.
If it were difficult to win over the independents before, I think it will be even more difficult now with the indictments.
The screen name "awb's left brain" suggests AWB has a brain. Then there's the other poster who insists "Brian Howey knows what he's talking about." Both are incredulous statements and lead me to conclude we should all take cover. Those pigs up there in the sky are about to take a dump on us.

This is the funniest post I have seen here perhaps ever.
Lefty: I'll concede your point on AWB's creativity. I must insist you offer conclusive evidence of your claim he has a brain, however. Until I see it, I'm paying no attention to the man behind the curtain.
The latest Zogby Poll is horrible news for the Kelty Campaign. After all the generally positive news coverage on Kelty, all the (borrowed) money he spent in the primary and all the attention he got with his upset win, he STILL trailed Tom Henry, who has done surprisingly little campaigning. And to top it off, the poll skewed heavy with Republicans and was taken BEFORE Kelty was indicted on nine counts, including lying to the grand jury. More than a third of the Kelty supporters polled said they'd dump Kelty if he were indicted. Spin all you like but Kelty is in deep trouble.
Look for Kelty to continue to self-destruct when he goes negative about Henry's city council record despite the fact that a negative campaign sank Linda Buskirk's second mayoral bid four years ago, and the fact that his own poll urges an approach that looks to the future.
If the local GOP hopes to move a candidate into the mayor's office, it better convince Kelty to move out of the city and off the ballot - and fast.
That's one of the things that turned me off to voting for Kelty. He prances around in his "I'm a Christian" flare, flaunts all of his right-to-life PAC endorsements, then he turns and campaigns with a negative comments about his opponent.
So if he isn't actually going to behave like a "Christian", then that whole angle was just for political gain, which is plain despicable.
By comparison, Tom Henry hasn't bee out saying, "Look at me, look at me, I'm a Christian!!!" At the same time, he's treated Ketly with dignity and respect.
Matt Kelty's support among the right-to-lifers appears to be based solely and slavishly on his opposition to abortion. It doesn't appear related to his character.
While there is a lot truth behind the idea that the establishment didn't/doesn't want him as a candidate, the resulting adversity has helped us to see his true character. He has little respect for the law (witness his oversized campaign sign downtown); he has little regard for the truth (witness his deceptions regarding the first Zogby poll and later mistruths to GOP leaders and the public); he has little grasp of fiscal conservatism (witness the huge loans he secured with no means of repaying them); and he has little appreciation for true family values (witness his dragging his children to a political rally just hours after seeing him handcuffed on TV).
Through no fault of his own, Kelty got caught up in situations for which he was not prepared. You can't blame him for that nor should anybody kick him while he's down.
However, it is how we deal with that kind of adversity that defines one's character. Matt Kelty just doesn't measure up.
I'm curious as to what Kelty's RTL backers think he's actually going to do once in office: Run Planned Parenthood out of town? Ban all forms of birth control? Outlaw vasectomies and tubal ligations? Or were they just going to let him put in his time so that he could run for higher office with a mayorship under his belt?
There are things that a Kelty Administration could do to exercise his anti-abortion muscle: he can't outlaw abortions, but he could certainly use police patrols outside abortion clinics to harass women, or turn a blind-eye to aggressive anti-abortion protesters emboldened by his election; he could use fire department inspections to hassle abortion clinics; he could seek changes in zoning designations...
Sure, his right-to-life financiers do hope to get Kelty in Congress someday, but he don't think for a minute that he can't or won't try to use the mayor's office to build his pro-life street credibility.

Wow, that was absolutely beautiful. Excellent work!
Perfectly said and absolutely true. What a shame everything went this way.
Hit the nail on the head.
"Mr. Kelty you are no Dick Lugar"

"wanting something so badly they will sell their own political souls "
Pretty powerful and damaging words used to describe Mr. Kelty and some of his followers.

Simply Unfit to be mayor.

Kelty is done. Too bad, he seemed somewhat nice...just lied a little too much.
"Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour."
(Exodus 20:16 KJV)
"Thou shalt not lie" to a grand jury.
"This is a liberal media circus"
That is one of the funniest things I've heard all week.
Steve Shine's "free thinking" comment was also enjoyable.
I enjoyed this.
Just heard Kelty on the news. He is sooo sure he's going to win. Is he?

AWB has a brain...it just so happens that he never uses the left side. You know, the part responsible for logic.
He only uses the right side of his brain. That's the part used for creativity. He is creative, I will give him that.

It sounds like that's the plan: recruit now and use as pawns later.

I absolutely agree with his pro-life stance. I think he needs to be a pastor or preist instad of a mayor.
Wait a minute - aren't clergy people suppose to be honest?
Kelty for Congress? That's funny
