As a young, college grad who left Fort Wayne, I find myself very impressed with Nelson Peters' responses...especially dealing with downtown development.
I have also been impressed with Tom Henry's stances on downtown.
It's nice to know that the two front runners will continue what Graham Richard has started.
*UPDATE*
Apparently Mr. Peters IS against any type of baseball facility downtown. I assumed a change in architectural plans meant changing the outfield dimensions in the baseball stadium so it could incorporate high school football games.
So then you're against the Harrison Square project as currently proposed?
As currently proposed? Yes. But we have had some conversations with Hardball Capital --
"We" being?
We being various interested people. I suppose in this case, commissioners, of Allen County. We have had some discussions with them and they do seem very open to multi-purpose uses.
So then it would be a modification of the current architectural plans?
Right.

I agree with you. I am also impressed with Mr. Peters responses to the sometimes difficult questions. To be Mayor of the second largest city in Indiana, we need to have an innovative, ethical and future-minded person for the job. Mr. Kelty keeps saying that experience is over-rated. Really?! Maybe for a burger-flipper but not a Mayor. If Kelty somehow got elected, I would truly be bummed-out for the city I love. I think it would eventually just die-out.
Nelson is very polished so be careful.
Young people, Nelson is not a front runner right now. He is in a dead heat with Mr. Quo, Matt Kelty. Every one of you better get out and vote on election day. The margin is going to be razor thin one way or another.
I agree more with the politics of Mr. Henry, but again, Mr. Peters impressed me with his responses.
I have no idea how Mr. Kelty is claiming that he is reaching out to younger voters.
The hardware store doctrine doesn't sit every well with my age group.
So does Peters support the ballpark or is he against it? It sounds like he is against it unless/ in the next week, they change the architectural plans, but I can't really tell. Help anyone?
I thought the plans already had been changed to incorporate football...
I don't know. But in the interview, done earlier this week, the question is "Then you are against Harrison Square as currently proposed?" and he says "Yes." He then goes on to say some people are talking to Hardball Capital about changes to the architectural plans. I can't figure out his position.
Peters did the same thing with the petition about school funding. Signed it but then saidit doesn't mean he is for or against the spending. It's like he wants to be associated with the issues, but doesn't want to take a position that smebody might not like.
As for the ballpark - NO - Peters does NOT want another stadium while there is still life in the one we have. He does believe, however, that revitalizing downtown is crucial. One way to do that is a multi-use, year round facility that incorporates football, hockey, auctions, etc.
As for the FWCS remonstrance he signed, that was for getting more people to express their opinions on this. That's a load of money they want to spend. Maybe it's needed - maybe not all of it. Should it be taken in smaller steps? Questions need to be answered and Peters states that his signature was slowing down the process - nothing more, nothing less.
Would have been nice to have done the indoor stadium right instead adding 2000 nose bleed seats in the stadium we already had.
I must have mis-understood the interview then.
Peters wants auctions downtown?
This is starting to sound a lot like Keltys plan.
Nelson wasn't very clear in his answer on the architectural plans.
Is anon. a representative of the Peters campaign?
If questions need to be answered about the FWCS funding, shouldn't Peters have asked those questions when he served on the Yellow Ribbon Commission that recommended the funding? If he asked and they weren't answered, should he have stuck around to vote no instead of leaving the meeting early? Maybe he should identify the questions he has so that others could benefit from his close involvement through the Yellow Ribbon Commission.
I just received a forwarded email from Peter's campaign manager - Peters has never mentioned auctions.
Check your facts and get them straight.
Also, there are so many anons floating around here, make up a name so we can reference you and direct our responses.
Remember, there is an old military saying that the "enemy of my enemy is my friend"
Clearly, Kelty is the ANTI HARRISON SQUARE candidate. He is basing his entire campaign on it.
Nelson is certainly not a proponent of Harrison Square and he is far from it.
But the Republican nominee is going to most likely be our next mayor. So, your choice is between Mr. Anti Harrison Square Kelty and the more moderate opponent Peters. Easy choice in my opinion.
Well, you certainly have to applaud the Peters' campaign for issuing that important clarification. Bold leadership, taking a clear stand, even if it costs him votes with the important auctioneer constituency.
I have a name now, woohoo. Now every time I try to look at things from a logical perspective, people can insult me directly! Let the distortion of positions/comments begin!
inplanner....Did the Kelty Campaign dispatch you here?
Anon.....good one. Yeah, Matt (pastor Kelty) sent me here to make sure that you're getting the IN GOD WE TRUST license plates and that everyone meets his definition of a "family". Oh, and to make sure that you're not visiting any of those horrible Sexually Oriented Businesses.
I'd encourage anyone else that comes here to get a name as well. You can make up whatever you want. It can be your real name or your late night internet chat name. We don't care. Just so we can acknowledge and respond appropriately.
Thanks and keep the dialogue going.
