My Confusion

Just like the Purdue fan above who was confused about a Safety call in last years Bucket Game, I'm still confused about the race next Tuesday.

SYLVESTER! has some interesting picks on his blog and even has a bet with my boy Sam T.

Can Matty Kelty pull of the upset?

Who will win the at-large bids for the City Council?

Who do you think will win? We'd love to read your comments.

We'll be making our picks next week. SYLVESTER! will be shocked.

I'm going with Kelty in the Mayor's race by a razor slim margin. The grassroots support doesn't seem to be there for Peters.

I have faith in the people of Fort Wayne. They will not select someone so far out there with no experience. Peters will win but it will be very close.

Your faith will be shattered..

Even the state dems' poll shows Kelty with a 12% lead against Peters.

What we don't know is how many Dems will cross over to vote in the Republican primary. I know some who will be voting for Peters just protect the city from a Kelty administration.

I doubt that.. they'll be voting for Henry. Do you realize how hard it is for a leftard to vote for a GOP candidate?

Kelty will win by 4 points or more. I'm giving odds if you're interested. ;)

I agree with AWB. It's going to be hard for many Dems to cross over. There isn't a "high profile" Dem race in the primary, so a lot probably won't even vote.

Kelty by 1.5%

Yes, local Democrats vote for Henry. Except that it will be in six months in the November election. Obviously you haven't much time looking at voting records to realize that a lot D's crossover in the primary.

AWB, why in the heck would the State Democratic party being wasting money pulling the GOP primary?

I pray to god that Kelty does not win, but I do think he has a razor slight edge. No way does Kelty win by 12%

A Kelty win will assure the Democrats 4 more years in the Mayor's office. Republicans and General Election voters will flock to Tom Henry's lever in the election not so much to support Henry but to vote for "Not Kelty".

Angry, It appears that you are involved with the Kelty Cult. Do you actually assist with the mixing of the kool-aid or do have some other important role?

To Anon #1: Ask Kevin Knuth about the poll. Aboite will carry Kelty or Peters.

To Anon #2: No, I tend to the the Martini's and cigars.

I'm not a big fan of either candidate by any means, but it appears Kelty will win by a slight margin.

Does Tom Henry need any help with his campaign?

If Democrats want Henry to win, they will vote for Kelty in the primary, not Peters, so any cross-over will help Peters.

Peters will win (not by my vote, and not because of Democrat cross-over, but he will win anyway) and you will be surprised at how large a margin (prove me wrong, Fort Wayne).

You can't fight City Hall.

You never answered me about whether or not it would suck to own a downtown bar like the 412 and have to deal with a bunch of favored competition. The non-answer clearly implies that you want to be a part of the "big-man" scheme sticking it to the "little-man". This implies a lot of things. Ingenuity and creativity spring out of small business. Are you seeking to become part of the status-quo?

I was at the 412 briefly last night and did talk to the owner. He’s confident of succeeding and has adaptive plans and ideas (including putting on a deck so people will be able to smoke outside) no matter what happens. It was silly arrogant of you to suggest they just sell their liquor license to the city for a fair price if these new riverfront bars come in. It’s silly of me to think the current downtown bars would fail just because of new favored competition.

no, I am heavily favoring the competition. I believe one bar owner was stated when asked about competition, "I'd rather fight crowds than no crowds." He meant that if there were more things drawing people downtown, then there would be more people visiting his bar.

The 412 and many bars like it have been around for years. They have had good times and bad, but I think they will survive the few short years it takes Harrison Square to turn into Fort Wayne's Indianapolis Union Station

Do you think any current bar owners would consider moving to the new area?

Dan Turkette said...

So what you’re saying is that Harrison Square will fail just like Union Station did? I couldn't agree more.

Freed from active traffic, the 1913-1920s trainshed was now available for redevelopment. Seven years and $50 million later, the renovated Union Station opened its doors in 1986. The fine 1888 headhouse became the grand entrance to the complex, housing an upscale restaurant on the former concourse floor. The eastern half of the shed became a festival marketplace, with specialty stores, bars, and a food court, while the western half was converted into a hotel, with new room modules built in the area occupied by most of the old tracks.

[..] city officials had shuttered the mall venture in 1996. Since then, the city has scrambled to find paying tenants for the various parts of the property. The festival marketplace had been torn out, replaced by (of all things) a go-kart track, where executives on corporate retreats drive tiny scooter cars around an Indy-style racetrack.

That's what we might end up with, a go-cart track for the tons of people showing up to use the Grand Wayne Center.

[..] Competition. As patronage at Union Station fell off in the early 1990s, the city threw its backing behind a still-more-ambitious adaptive reuse and downtown revitalization project one block north--the $319.5 million Circle Centre mall. In this massive project, developers and the city hollowed out two full city blocks, preserving only the facades of the original 4- and 5-story brick-and-stone commercial structures. Inside, they fabricated a completely new suburban-style mall behind the facades of the old buildings.

Maybe they'll just call it the Papetalariford Race Track. They could get Tony Stweart to come down and race the public!

Get er done Fort Wayne!

I received a couple postcards in the mail from Peters yesterday. One had a picture of him with a bunch of elected Republicans, including Mark Souder, David Long, Randy Borror and Crawford. It just reaffirmed the reasons why I am NOT VOTING FOR PETERS.

Kelty is too far to the right for my taste and he's too much of a politician. It seems like he would say anything to get elected.

Personally, I'm voting for Hood, even though I don't think he stands a chance of winning.

For Council, I'm going with Mildred and Morris. Crawford needs to go.

Yes let's compare Harrison Square to the cavernous Union Station in Indianapolis. So much similarity in the two projects.

?

Compare them on a scale and it is a comparison. This just goes to show how informed Anon is in that he thought Union Station was a heppening place. Oh you kiddies.

you call people "kiddies" and yet you invent a new word... "heppening"??
