On my way to the airport (it is less expensive to fly than drive right now--go figure) I stopped at the Big Boy in Waynedale and sat in the former smoking lounge. I expected some grousing, especially from the morning coffee-and-cigs-to-get-me-going crowd. But it didn't happen while I was there. There was plenty of talk about the change in smoking policy, but it was all positive. All of it. I heard families talking across tables about how they used to have to request a table far away from the smoking area door because the nearby tables were so unpleasant. I also saw three men at the table next to mine eating and conversing normally despite the fact that there were cigarette packs in the shirt pockets of two of them. There were certainly several patrons going for their lighers as soon as they stepped outside, but they seemed fine and seemed willing to refrain while dining. They apparently had not decided they would rather drive to New Haven or cook their own eggs so that they could smoke at the same time. Just one hour in one eating establishment one day after the smoking ordinance. But, it said a lot. True life experience VS all the hypothetical talk and dire predictions about what would happen. Oh, and when I left...Before I saw those who were lighting up in the parking lot, I noted that almost every table was taken and there were people waiting in line. I further note that I ended up at Big Boy because Spyro's was competely full. Makes ya breathe easier, doesn't it?
Notice anything different in the two posts? One gives specifics (specific place, specific instances, etc) The other...A secret location where ALL the patrons in the otherwise empty place were all complaining. Must have been Minnie's diner-where it seems that smoking was the ONLY reason to go there (see review). Otherwise--it is safe to look up. The sky is firmly in place.

The same thing happened at another place yesterday morning, except that it was almost empty and the people there were all complaining.
