Wow, I wish everyone lived in Paul's world! This would be a MUCH easier decision if it were a choice between hot dogs or economic development. I haven't made up my mind about which petition yet..it is a difficult one. But this is EXACTLY why the yellow side will lose. They continue to approach the issue with a cavalier attitude like this! Wake up. The choice is much more difficult for those not in the same financial position as Mr. Spoelhof. The impact for those folks will not be fewer video games, Paul, it will be less food or an inability to pay the tax bill. For some $500 is an entire month's income--an amount they don't have the luxury to use for smokes or video games or hot dogs or whatever else you deem unworthy. They need it to survive and keep their home. Continue to dismiss people's real worries and needs and you will deserve to lose this battle.
How does a person buy a house on $500 per month..really THAT is the question--that is how you can dismiss the concern? Can't you guys think beyond your own circumstances?? People living on a fixed income may not have always been in the position they are in now. They may have been able to purchase and maintain a home 20 or 30 years ago just fine. But now, they DO try to get by on $500-$800 per month. And another substantial tax increase will be just too much. (The SS check one starts earning today won't be worth very much after 15 years of inflation) YES people who live on $500 per month ARE homeowners and trying to retain their dignity and the homes they struggled to purcahse 50 years ago. Do you all close your eyes when you drive through Wayne township????
I know Paul well enough to know that he's laughing about the "financial position" your little fantasy world has him living in. You've obviously never met him if you're making him out to be like one of the dads on "My Super Sweet 16." Paul is a good guy whose sole interest in this issue is the well-being of kids in the FWCS--including his two sons. They're his motivation, and that's a hell of a lot more noble than a lot of motivatiors. He's also brave enough to put his reputation and name on the line (not to mention being brave enough to sign his comment here) for something he believes in. I've rarely seen someone put so much effort into something that has so little personal upside. You don't have to agree with his stance on the petition, but don't take potshots at him unless you know him and his true reasons for getting involved. If we had more people like Paul on either end of our public debates, we wouldn't have nearly as much bullshit floating around.

I do not believe people that live on $500 a month are homeowners. I could be wrong.
