From the Journal Gazette this morning:
"Earlier in the campaign, Kelty loaned himself $148,000, a sign of weaker-than-desired financing."
Wow. $omeone is doing well. I'm $ure Pat Robert$on or Ted Haggard would love to get their hand$ on that.
RIP Jerry Falwell

I find it amazing that the guy is willing to take out a loan on himself, in essence invest in himself, but he is completely against FW investing or spending money in itself.
Jerry Falwell, Jim Baker, Pat Robertson, Binny Hinn, Jimmy Swaggart, Ted Haggerty, .... the list goes on, and on, and on.
This is a critical time for the city of FW. Does Matt Kelty find himself in the same company as some of the evangelical, born-again, religious "leaders" listed above ? If elected will he institute his own ultra right wing, neo-conservative agenda for the city of FW ?
If you think the individuals listed above represent the future of not only our city, but our country, then Mr. Kelty most certainly is your man to lead FW.
It's only a loan if you can pay it back.
Matt must be pretty wealthy if he can afford to dump $148,000 into his campaign. Or else someone else plans to cover the loan - which is an interesting campaign finance question.
Of course, Matt isn't so good at campaign finance, is he?
Or he has a lot of confidence in himself or his message???
yes, but if that is true, that would mean he does not have any confidence in FW.
What a bunch of sore losers.
dont blame me, I voted for Roach

speeding down the left lane of the highway to hell...
Jerry Falwell is quite dead.
You're all pissed off because you know if Kelty wins, we're going back to smaller govt, and market-based economic development.
He won. Get over it.
No, I'm upset because we'll return to not investing in our city. He doesn't have a plan, furthermore, he does not have any experience.
Genesis Fort Wayne is his plan.
Read it and weap
And where can one read the Genesis Fort Wayne plan ???
I hope you are not referring to the Bible, because if Kelty's idea to revitalize downtown FW is to hold weekly revivals at Headwaters Park, I will truly weep.
It involves moving Opus Dei to Fort Wayne.
Moving Opus Dei to the Fort is not a bad idea. The amount of bucks that organization brings in should provide a healthy infusion to the FW economy.
Although I would much rather see the Fort attract a high-profile, youth retreat like the one featured in the movie, "Jesus Camp"
People are starting to see the real Matt Kelty.
This guy is a nut job.
sore losers?
A lot of people are no fans of Peters either...though he's a lot better alternative to Kelty.
Go Henry.
CFW - If Fort Wayne had somehow earned any money (instead of just charging those pesky taxpayers), I would agree with you. In our system of government, CHANGE WILL NOT OCCUR BY FORCE - it will only occur with the agreement and consent of the governed. We in Fort Wayne have not seen this type of activity until recently. And some of us are hopeful that it will go away. Our type of CHANGE may just be Matt Kelty. We shall see in November. John B. Kalb
"if Kelty's idea to revitalize downtown FW is to hold weekly revivals at Headwaters Park"
Don't knock revivals. They can bring in serious cash. A well planned revival can sell hotel rooms, pack restaurants, and most importantly fill the new pavilion at headwaters Park.
J.B. Kalb,
If Kelty is the Answer, what in god's name is the Question??!!
Unknown Anonymous: If you can read, it's "what change does Fort Wayne require in 2007" I'm identified as John B. Kalb - I have a name - don't you?
I really hope Matt Kelty shuts down all the strip clubs in Fort Wayne.
When is Genesis Fort Wayne coming out?
I find it strange that Kelty takes out a $148M loan, yet touts that he drives an old car and buys his clothes at the Goodwill.
I guess not everyone likes to drop the $ for a new car, but buying your clothing at the GW? Sheesh, isn't he going a bit far? Those fine clothes could be going to people who really need them!
I'm sure Fort Wayne would move forward with Kelty at the helm. After all, doesn't every downtown need a hardware store? Personally, I live on the north side of town, but I'd be willing to drive all the way downtown for a shovel versus 4 1/2 minutes away, especially since gas prices are so low.
;)
I think there are some serious questions that need to be answered about that $148,000. I'm not accusing anyone of campaign finance fraud, but people have been asking questions about that "loan" and haven't gotten any straight answers.
