Saturday May 26 will mark the 6 year anniversary of the tornado that hit Fort Wayne on Memorial Day Weekend in 2001. I was enjoying myself at a BBQ with a couple other CFW contributors not too far away from where it touched down near Papermill Bluff. I remember seeing the damage that it did to the office complex, retirement community, and a little further away; Holiday theaters, and cursed Damon's (how is UNO surviving?). What was everyone doing that day? Any good/bad stories?

We took our nieces and nephew shopping to Kohl's. It's a long story but we ended up at the Kohl's southwest, not at Northcrest - but their mother didn't know that. We had no idea that anything had happened worse than a thunderstorm while we were shopping, so we meandered slowly back to the kids' home in New Haven, stopping for ice cream. At the time my cell phone held a charge for about 20 minutes, so I never turned it on....needless to say, we returned the kids back to a very frantic mother.
I was outside drinking some PBR
Watching it from my front window. I used to live in Woodlands of Riverside subdivision and look out my front window and to the left (which would be towards Northcrest Shopping Mall) and saw debris flying in a whitish cloud, but it almost seemed horizontal vs vertical. Weird. It must have lifted up when it approached my area of the subdivision and then touched down again when it got closer to the front of Papermill Bluffs. My husband opened the garage door to get a better view while I was gathering the pets to safety when the electricity went out. I opened the kitchen door to the gargage to find out what he was doing and he yelled, "get in the house, it's headed right for us." I kept waiting for the house to rip apart, but we got very lucky. The area looked almost like a war zone when it was over. Scary stuff...
Man! That really BLEW!
Thank you! I'll be here all week! Don't forget to tip your waitress - she's such a cow!
Bada bing bam boom!
I was out of town and saw video of Northcrest on CNN.
