Does he support Harrison Square?

No.

It should be settled before then. :)

The posters on this blog are really, really funny.

If you hate Fort Wayne so much, why don't you leave?

I live in a big city now and love every minute of it. I like coming back to Fort Wayne, but I get bored within 3 hours of being there.

I have no desire to ever come back.

My suggestion....move to a big city and stop whining.

time to leave:

I somewhat agree with you.

I currently live in a big city and love it. I love my job and love having something to do or see all of the time.

Walking down a crowded city street sure beats a cul-de-sac...especially at my age.

I don't see myself back in Fort Wayne for a long, long time.

However, I want to see Fort Wayne succeed...and I think Harrison Square is a project that can get the ball rolling for downtown.

I think it is really sad that Kroger bought Scotts. This is going to have a very unfortunate effect on Fort Wayne. Besides lost jobs, empty real estate, and lost distribution business - we will lose all the community efforts that Scotts previously did.

Fort Wayne has to make some serious changes or these sorts of things are going to continue to happen.

Time to Leave,

Thank you for your misguided attempt at steering me in the right direction (out of Fort Wayne).

Firstly, I don't think you understand our blog, but that's fine, it's not for everyone. Secondly, I do in fact live in a big city (Washington,DC). Half of the people of this blog are still living in Fort Wayne (we've mentioned this before) and the other half do not.

That said, your point isn't lost on me or the rest of the people here. Young people get bored in Fort Wayne! True story. We get it. We've lived it. That's part of the reason we made this blog. We want that to change however much is possible.

However, despite what you say (and part of this may come from you not understanding the blog) I do not hate Fort Wayne. I wouldn't be on this blog if I hated it. I spent 23+ years there (besides time spent away at college). I merely want what I think is best for the city because I would love to go back to live and work while also enjoying a vibrant city.

What's wrong with wanting positive change? How is it "whining" to want something better for your hometown?

Unfortunately this is the attitude that comes across too often. "If you don't like it the way it is, just move!" Well, we do like it, we just think it can be better.

Odd fact! I am excited about Scott's and Kroger's merging! When you think about Fort Wayne, there is an over abundance of grocery stores. (Same thing, when I lived in Indy.) With such lack of diverse owners, I believe that we may be able to begin to draw in such stores as Whole Foods, Wild Oats, Sunflower Market (owned by Supervalu) and Trader Joe's. So instead of complaining, let's see what the future holds.

first- thanks for the "plug".
like "Flounder" in Animal House said "OH Boy! Is this fun!"

If I had a say, which I dont (nor do any of the rest of you deceived fellow friends, neighbors, and residents- this was a done deal from "the git-go"- developer feast on private money to line the pockets of the local ruling class- follow the money..)
I would say that this project should be 100% privately financed- sell shares of stock/ bonds, etc; and pay the investors- us a dividend- just like in the rest of the free-market economy.

And tell us the truth- when this whole Ponzi Scheme falls like a house of cards, where will the "flim-flam man", and the rest of the swindlers be, and will their /OUR money be somewhere in an offshore banking haven- untouchable; and irretrevable lost?

call me a cynic; but heres my logic:
remember waaay back, when main street was first "revitalized"?
the city county building was built, friemann park was built, the performing arts center was built, the FW Museum of Art was built the FWFD firestation #1 was built? That was supposed to revitalize downtown.

Then the grand wayne center was built, then expanded. then expanded again. to revitalize downtown.
Then midtowne crossing condominiums were built. this was supposed to revitalize downtown.

oh- did I mention we closed all the downtown night clubs- the Rathskeller, the cats meow, the Landing has opened and lost a long litany of nightclubs.
DEJA VU/fort Wayne books has been replaced by Delmar video; and Budoir Noir, plus internet porn on demand- download at the speed of light- courtesey of Verizon FIOS..
snicker..

The Allen County Public Library was supposed to bring lots of commerce downtown.
and so on. you get the drift.
And then Halleluah! Starbucks!!! opened!!!Praise be to the Gods! every impatient, obnoxious frickin' Yuppie scum in a BEEMER at the drive through; in a hurry, juggling their cellphones, iPods, blackberries, stick shift, cd player- everything but driving the "ultimate driving machine"- in a hurry to get to their govt, or govt sudsidized/parasiticazl job.

then at 5:01 PM (1701- for all you veterans, and global economy flat world types)- downtown becomes the same ghost town it always has been at 501 because of market forces of supply and demand.
and lots of other reasons.
Anyway-
When HS crashes, and burns, and we, the taxpayers are left holding the bag, then our local representatives will cry in desperation to the statehouse "WE must do something! look at GAry Indiana- Gambling downtown at the little turtle hotel, Grand Wayne Casino, and Harrison Square ballpark/off track betting parlor/slot amchine emporium will be the only thing that will save us. Look at downttown detroit's Renaissance Square casino complex- lots of cash flow.

So we are being deceived, and the sellers/developers/politicians are veing disingenuous when they say they are not conspiring to incrementally sell gambling as a last resort, instead of as a first choice.
fort Wayne used to be a "wild west- free for all boomtown in its past- lots of downtown activitys to be had.
Oh- we need to change the zoning/planning ordinances so that anything can locate within 25 feet of a church- or better still, bulldoze the churches, or let them have bingo/monte carlo nights. Our lady of Perpetual Luck?

Roach 4 Mayor- I wont take your guns away; hooray for hollywood; viva las Vegas, let the good times roll; damn the torpedos, and full steam ahead!
