Its no wonder businesses and the private sector has pasted Fort Wayne over for development. How much politics and red tape can we throw up before we allow someone into our town?
I find this ridiculous. First FWCS remonstrance and now a call for a referendum for HS? I guess we shouldn't deal with anything or hear any opinions until after the primary.
The weather is getting nice out, it looks like some have flipflops on. Where does Peter's stand? First in support of HS if the site is a multipurpose area, but now he wants to delay.
Time's ticking boys, I am slowly seeing money slip away and other funds not being accessible.
P.S. FW just hit the snooze button - wake me up when it is time to start rolling.

You know, I was completely against the HS project when I first heard about it - and I think they made a HUGE miscalculation by putting in a "baseball stadium" as opposed to calling it something else - but you are absolutely right.
If I were a major business looking at downtown, why would I want to throw my money at Fort Wayne when the public, government and politicians seem to be so against it? Or worse, are apathetic. I'd be looking for another town with the same feel and size as FW (and I'm sure there are dozens of them) that actively WANTS to move forward and build a better city.
This is probably a midwestern thing, being comfortable and short-sighted.
They can't wait until Nov. to do the project because I don't think the grant will be available anymore...I think they have to approve the project by Sept. or something of that nature...

I have already removed my Nelson Peters yard sign.
I thought Nelson Peters was a COUNTY commissioner...how exactly did he get his pecker caught in this CITY COUNCIL matter? Did the Fort switch to UniGov when I wasn't looking? Does the City Council have to answer to Peters and company?
I was previously curious about Henry, but I think he is doing EXACTLY what he should be doing ... letting the Republicans battle out the polarized issues. Why should he get involved at this stage ?

What Peters is trying to accomplish is to allow the citizens of Fort Wayne decide where their money should be spent. Why do you have a problem with that? Peters did not say he was against HS, I believe he thinks it should be up to the people, not city council to decide. Peters is for HS, with a multi-use facility, but I don't think he's too keen on ANOTHER baseball stadium. I'll take your yard sign, anonymous. I will be voting for Peters, and IMHO, anyone who wants to see this city move forward will too.

The proposed stadium IS a "multi-use facilit." If I hear another person make this moronic stipulation ("I'd be for HS if it were a "multi-use" facility...")...I'm gonna blow my stack.

I think Fort Wayne is just used to electing impotent figureheads... you know, officials who will clap at the right times and give motivational speeches, but don't have a clue how to LEAD.
Graham Richard and company are pretty sharp cats...let them do their thing and see what happens. If it's a disaster, the egg will be on HIS face.
Even if this thing costs taxpayers an EXTRA $60 Million in property taxes over the next decade, it still comes out to about $75 per household per year, so nobody's going in the poor house as a result.
Fort Wayne's problem is that it rarely seeks community buy-in before it decides to go ahead and do something. Look at how they handled government consolidation. As soon as HEA 1362 was signed by the Governor, Fort Wayne Council passed a resolution to "study" consolidating with Allen County. Then they couldn't figure out why all of those stupid ingnorant hilljack country bumpkins were so pissed about what they were trying to do. They thought that nobody else was smart enough to see what was going on down in Indianpolis but they were wrong. I guess those rural folks weren't so stupid after all.
Then Fort Wayne City Council moaned and complained about how the commissioners wouldn't agree to "study" consolidation. Sorry folks, you don't need a state law to study something. You need a state law to secrety decide how to redesign the power structure in Fort Wayne so you can sell consolidation to the voters and screw the small towns and cities out of any future growth.
So once again, Fort Wayne is laying down the law and saying "this is what we're doing." Hey, it worked for Mitch Daniels and the toll road lease. Who cares what people think, just do it.

I agree it will have baseball... That is a given.
It is NOT going to have football games and anyone who thinks it is does not know much about Fort Wayne, High School Football, or the revenues that High Schools make off High School Football.
How many High Schools are going to PAY MONEY to HBC to have a game downtown so that the Parking Garage and HBC can take the revenue the High School and their boosters are used to making off of ticket sales, parking, and concessions at their home games? Are you insane?
Concerts, Memorials Stadium was supposed to have concerts too Andrew. In fourteen years they have had TWO. Thinks about this, Memorial Stadium has a ton of nearby parking. The new stadium will be smaller and could actually only handle SMALLER crowds... That is sure to attract concerts...
Fireworks. You think shooting off fireworks is multi-use? Please.

Isn't it interesting how if someone even so much as asks a question about HS, the hardcore proponents, like the ones on here, are quick to stand up and yell, "Well, well, you're just in favor of status quo!!!!!! So there!" Again, Mitch Daniels did the same thing. If you raise questions about his proposals, BOOM, you're against progress!

Are they just lying to us about the proposed uses for the stadium? They are undergoing an architectural redesign that I'm sure is costly to accomodate football, but yet you say it will not be used for that?
What the hell would be the point of going to the cost of changing the plans so drastically if the intention was to never use it for Football?

People flock downtown by the tens of thousands for the TRF finale every year, and most of them do so solely for that purpose. If they could walk some specialty shops and maybe even have a seat (gasp!) in the stadium instead of lawn chairs on a surface parking lot....??? How is fireworks NOT a "use?"
You're high, Mike, if you think that Hardball is going to be satisfied to only sell tickets on baseball game days. You wouldn't be, were you in there shoes, and neither would I. We'd want those doors open (with the corresponding revenue streams) as much as possible. Why is that so tough to admit?
inplanner, I think Mitch Daniels is one of the best Republican governers this state has seen. I am amazed at the people that are still angry about Major Moves. Fort Wayne, in it's wisdom, spent all its time trying to stop the lease of the toll road, when we could have written our own check on the thing. When you have a state that is deeply in debt and struggling to meet national wages you need MAJOR influx of dollars to make capital improvement. What is funny is that people don't even know why they oppose Major Moves - they don't understand the details, they just oppose leasing it.

Has anyone thought about the comment made by the owner of Sweetwater about how upset he was concerning the HS. The question must be asked, why didn't he locate downtown? His business would have been a big boost for young professionals working in downtown, which would lead to entertainment...living...more business...more jobs...
Have you actually driven by the Sweetwater facility? Where do you think he'd be able to put that downtown? Should we get GM to move into downtown too?
