My Confusion

Republican Mayoral Candidates Differ on Harrison Square

I'm so confused on who supports and who doesn't support Harrison Square.

I think we need to bring back veteran reporter Marti Wright. She'll uncover all the details.

"While expressing some real concerns about Harrison Square, Kelty is quick to point out he would support government funding of some other projects in downtown Fort Wayne. Among them, a new natatorium, ice skating center or upgrades to the Fort Wayne Ballet's practice facility. "

So Kelty won't fund a project hat includes a ballpark, condos, parking garage, hotel and retail, but he will use public money to upgrade the ballet's PRACTICE facility??

I can't understand Kelty or Peters.

They are riding the fence on this whole issue. Are that many republicans against downtown development???

I just hope no public funding is used for hardware stores.

Bring back Jay Walker!

Bring back Marti Wright?

I'll drink to that.

Ironically (or not?) Kelty's ideas (natatorium, ice skating center) are ones that are most likely to require long-term, on-going public subsidy for their operations. The city's deal with HB for the ballpark operations limits the city a lot more than what Kelty suggests.

Kelty is going to try and ride the Anti Harrison movement to the mayors office. He desperately wants the office and will do anything to get it. I am not sure the underlying facts regarding Harrison Square even matter to him any more. it is all about getting elected. What is very scary, is that he just might pull it off.

I am laughing very hard at the anon. who posted about drinking to Marty Wright. Nice touch.

It's been a long day at work, and maybe that's why I am a little confused by the Republican candidates as well. I'll need to dig deeper into all of this.

I tend to agree that Kelty appears as if he'll do anything to get to the mayor's office. He will no doubt attach himself to the anti Harrison Square issue and try to ride the wave. I can only hope he doesn't succeed.

Maybe Kelty just like Ballet?

(not that there is anything wrong with that)

I can tell you that Nelson Peters supports revitalizing downtown!! I read what he said and didn't find it confusing. He is not for ANOTHER baseball stadium but does support a multi-purpose arena. Now - if the Memorial stadium does end up on the rough side of a wrecking ball......

Guys, I'm having a great time in DC this week. Even though the weather is horrible, rainy and in the 40s , it just proves that if you give people a reason to go out the weather doesn't matter.
People still go out and have a good time.
