Kelty won’t receive a fair trial in Indiana
The Constitution of the United States guarantees that anyone accused of a crime shall be given access to a speedy trial by a fair and impartial jury. Can Matt Kelty get such a trial in Allen County? The answer is a positive no. Could he possibly get such a trial in Indiana? That is very doubtful because of the political nature of this situation. The voters of Fort Wayne deserve an election devoid of this kind of problem.

Presume Kelty innocent unless proven guilty
Emotions and opinions notwithstanding, our Constitution guarantees that Matt Kelty is innocent unless proved otherwise in a court of law.
Politics and the media coverage become intense in cases like this, and too often a person’s reputation is destroyed for life when there is no actual basis for it. This is why the Sixth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and the courts guarantee that an accused person is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law. Importantly, the Constitution also guarantees a person a speedy trial, which will hopefully occur in the Kelty case.
The Duke University rape case is a perfect example of how our legal system can become smothered by emotion and falsehoods. Indeed, innocent students’ lives and those of their families have been permanently affected by this wrongful case.
So let us please tone down the debate and hasty actions and presume that Kelty is innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

Trying to turn public against Kelty is wrong
For the umpteenth time, Tracy Warner has served up yet another repetitive, preachy column on Republican mayoral candidate Matt Kelty, “Kelty could have avoided indictment” (Aug. 21).
Every single morning we have been fed speculations, possibilities, rumors, predictions, lectures, accusations, sarcasm and arrogance – all of this done with the intention to turn public opinion against a good and decent man.
The leftist bias of The Journal Gazette has long been understood in this community.
Warner could spend more quality media time trying to stand up against the wind in front of a camera, reporting on Hurricane Dean, all the while warning each of us not to stand out in a hurricane.

Rodgers really doesn't think a conservative can't receive a fair trial in Indiana?

Mr. Kelty often touts his political experience gained from working on prior Senate campaigns for both Richard Lugar and Dan Coats.
If Mr. Kelty is as innocent as these writers claim, I have to wonder why neither Richard Lugar or Dan Coats has come forward to defend or endorse his candidacy for Mayor of Fort Wayne.
Lugar?? OH YEAH!!!!!
I was wondering when Kelty would get his people to start writing letters on his behalf. I'm sure there are MANY more to come. I thought it was funny that a 14 year old boy would write a letter to the editor. It's my experience that little boys don't do that kind of thing. No prompting there! We need to start writing our own letters and exposing this guy for what he is. If not a criminal, then at the very least incompetent. How can so many Keltyites be this blind?
14 year old boy? OH YEAH!!!!!
these letters are quite distrubing. are they from the same city? i have not seen them published anywhere. thank you for posting them. i enjoy reading the posts. when stuff is not in the newspaper. it makes me think twice about it.

Roach for Mayor? OH YEAAAHHHH!!!!
You can bet there are a lot more Kelty supporter letters to come because there are a lot of Kelty supporters. Funny, I can't recall seeing ANY letters saying why Tom Henry would make a better mayor...
I don't believe there A Lot of Kelty supporters. I do believe the few are VERY vocal though. I think most of them are a little nuts.

Because most of us are intelligent enough to not argue an already conceded point.
So you're conceding that Kelty would make a better mayor?
