My Editorials part XXI

Can anyone decipher what he's talking about? From HERE

I would propose, as I have said before, that the new hotel be on the corner of Harrison Street and Jefferson Boulevard (This is the proposed site), and that the proposed baseball stadium not be put there (it isn't). If the new hotel were there, you could have a crosswalk going across Jefferson like the current one from the Embassy Theatre to the Hilton Hotel. But the new one from the new hotel would not connect to a building but would have steps down to the sidewalk by the Grand Wayne Convention Center.

If feasible, renovate the old Indiana Hotel and have it connect to the new hotel by a crosswalk across Jefferson and then the current crosswalk already there from the Embassy to the Hilton Hotel could be used by those here for a convention or whatever occasion may bring people to Fort Wayne.

Why are people so obsessed with this walkway? Is crossing four lanes of traffic too much to handle? This is the exact reason we do not have any storefronts downtown, everyone is driving from point A to point B or they are in walkways. If you take away the foot traffic, then you take away the retail/commercial and everything becomes a destination. This creates an atmosphere where no one wonders or "window shops" because they are completely removed off of the sidewalks.

The current plan is to blow a hole through the "historic" Embassy Theatre, so people will not have to walk across Harrison (two lanes of traffic). Brilliant plan.

You realize this guy was one of those running for mayor last spring. He is not only ill informed about these details, but was also complaining awhile back that the HS project was going to destroy Powers Hamburgers. I don't think I've seen any reports saying that Powers is being removed, and even if it were, I'm sure it could be moved to another location easly since it so small.
I agree about the profusion of walkways. Since when has it been dangerous to cross Harrison St? Even Jefferson is not a problem when crossing at the traffic lights. Some people....!!

Now if they do that and it doesn't go so well then they'll have more room for Harrison Square
